Tokyo police release 3D suspect image in 30-year-old unsolved murder

Thirty years have passed since the unsolved murder and arson of Junko Kobayashi, a 21-year-old Sophia University student, in Katsushika, Tokyo. The incident occurred on September 9, 1996, when Kobayashi was stabbed in her home in Shibamata before the residence was set on fire.

Despite the deployment of over 120,000 investigators and the collection of 1,843 pieces of information, no arrests have been made. Forensic evidence, including Type A blood found on a matchbox and bedding, suggests the perpetrator may have been injured during the crime. Authorities have previously conducted large-scale DNA testing on local men with Type A blood.

In an effort to revitalize the investigation, the Metropolitan Police Department has released a newly created 3D image of a suspicious individual seen near the scene wearing an unusually large, ochre-colored raincoat. The victim's father, Kenji Kobayashi, recently visited the site to offer flowers in remembrance of his daughter.
