Tokyo ramen shop reduces noodle refill prices despite rising costs
A ramen restaurant in Kanda, Tokyo, named ‘Buta to Komugi’ has gained social media attention for its unexpected pricing strategy. While many businesses are raising prices due to the rising cost of raw materials, this establishment announced a price reduction for its ‘kaedama’ (noodle refills).
The price for refills has been lowered from 150 yen to 120 yen. According to a representative from the restaurant, the decision was made to support office workers in the Kanda area. The shop aims to help local workers feel satisfied and encouraged by allowing them to eat more affordably despite broader inflationary pressures.
The announcement went viral on X (formerly Twitter) after a customer shared a photo of the notice, leading to various reactions from the public, ranging from surprise to appreciation for the restaurant's gesture.
