Tokyo Taxi Day Highlights Film Festival and Family Event

To mark Japan’s Taxi Day on August 5, a series of events ran across Tokyo in early August 2026. The inaugural taxi‑theatre festival “TAXIATER”, organized by ENGINE and supported by S. RIDE, Daiwa Motor Transportation, International Motor and News Technology, deployed 100 specially wrapped taxis in the 23 wards and the Musashino‑Mitaka area from August 3 to August 9. Passengers could book a “TAXIATER” vehicle via the S. RIDE app and watch three original short films starring Shiori Kubo and others inside the cab. The first 5,000 riders received a certificate with a QR code for limited‑time online viewing, and the films were later shown in three Tokyo cinemas from August 15 to August 29.

A related family‑focused celebration, “Takkun Kansha Day 2026”, took place on August 8 at Bellsaal Akihabara. The event featured photo opportunities with the taxi mascot Takkun, displays of historic taxi meters and safety equipment, driving simulators, and live performances by idol groups. It also showcased the “One‑Line Taxi” campaign, with 20 taxis wrapped in winning slogans from a public contest. Both initiatives aimed to promote safe, enjoyable travel and to enrich the commuter experience with entertainment and community activities.
