Tokyo University of Agriculture adopts Buffalo NAS for genome data protection
The Laboratory of Genetic Information Utilization at Tokyo University of Agriculture's Atsugi Campus has implemented Buffalo Inc.’s corporate 4-drive NAS, the TS5420RN0404, to secure critical research data.
The laboratory focuses on genome analysis for the breeding of Brassicaceae plants, such as cabbage and Chinese cabbage. Due to the massive volume of data generated during genome sequencing, the lab utilizes the Buffalo NAS as a dedicated backup solution for essential raw data and analysis data used in academic papers.
The implementation aims to mitigate risks of data loss caused by student operational errors and ransomware infections. By utilizing immutable snapshot functions with a maximum protection period of 60 days, the laboratory can ensure data recovery and maintain historical records of data changes.
