Tokyo woman arrested after wrong-way highway chase

A woman, identifying herself as 55 years old, was arrested in Shibuya, Tokyo, after a high-speed chase involving wrong-way driving on major expressways. The incident began on the morning of September 9 near the Matsugaoka Interchange on the Keiyo Road in Chiba Prefecture. Police had initially located the woman's vehicle stopped on the shoulder, where she refused to cooperate for approximately one hour while reportedly holding a blade.

The woman then suddenly drove off, colliding with a police vehicle before fleeing. She led three patrol cars on a chase that included driving approximately 10 kilometers in the wrong direction on the Tokyo Outer Ring Road, starting from the Takaya Junction. Due to the extreme danger of the pursuit, police eventually ceased the chase near the Matsudo Interchange.

The vehicle was later located on a street in Shibuya, where the woman was arrested for violating the Swords and Firearms Control Law after a blade was found inside the car. Following her arrest, the woman reportedly became uncooperative during interrogation at the Shibuya Police Station. Due to concerns regarding her mental capacity and responsibility, she was released for emergency hospitalization, and authorities are continuing their investigation into her state of mind.
