Tokyu Corporation to deploy AI platform monitoring on Toyoko Line

Tokyu Corporation and Panasonic Connect have announced the rollout of an AI-powered platform monitoring system designed to assist train drivers during one-man operation. Starting September 17, the system will be introduced sequentially across 20 stations on the Toyoko Line, excluding Shibuya Station.

The technology utilizes AI image analysis to detect critical events on station platforms, such as rush-in boarding or accessibility signals from station staff. To assist drivers in making safe door-closing decisions, the system provides visual cues on the driver's cabin monitor. For example, it displays text for detected hand signals, red circles for general passengers, and green frames for individuals using white canes, strollers, or wheelchairs.

The full-scale implementation follows successful pilot programs conducted at Toritsu-daigaku and Tamagawa stations in early 2024. The initiative aims to enhance operational safety and modernize passenger services through digital transformation.
