Tolaram's $70M Guinness Nigeria Stake Soars to Over $350M as Firm Reaps Profits

Singapore‑based Tolaram Corporation bought Diageo's 58.02% stake in Guinness Nigeria for about $70 million (N103.7 billion) in June 2024, when the Nigerian market faced foreign‑exchange losses, high inflation and a wave of multinational exits. Within less than two years the holding is valued at roughly $350‑355 million (N486‑487 billion), more than five times the purchase price.

Guinness Nigeria has posted a sharp profit rebound, reporting a 53% rise in first‑half‑2026 earnings to N25.3 billion and declaring an interim dividend of N7 per share, delivering about $6.5 million to Tolaram and total dividend cash of $8.4 million this year. Diageo retained the Guinness brand and entered a long‑term licence and royalty agreement, shifting to a more asset‑light model while keeping its premium spirits business in Nigeria. The deal highlights Tolaram's long‑term investment strategy and renewed confidence in Nigeria's consumer market despite recent economic challenges.
