Toledo agricultural event highlights soil conservation practices
In Toledo, Paraná, the Sistema FAEP and the Instituto de Desenvolvimento Rural do Paraná (IDR-Paraná) held the first of five Soil Field Days to promote soil conservation and management practices. The event brought together over 100 rural producers, technicians, and students to discuss technical training and the diffusion of sustainable practices.
In partnership with Napi Prosolo, the event utilized a research area that has been studied for eight years to evaluate the effects of different conservation methods under real production conditions. Presentations focused on monitoring soil and water loss in areas with and without terracing, analyzing physical and microbiological soil parameters, and the management of swine waste for crop use.
Local producers noted that areas lacking terracing experienced significant soil and water loss, which negatively impacted fertility and contributed to river sedimentation. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between research institutions and producers to ensure long-term agricultural sustainability.
