Toledo medical team awarded for research on strength training prescription

Medical professionals from the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service at the Complejo Hospitalario Universitario de Toledo have received a national award for the most cited original article in the journal of the Spanish Society of Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine (SERMEF).

The study, titled “La formación en entrenamiento de fuerza dirigida a médicos aumenta su prescripción,” investigated how specific training affects the clinical prescription of strength training. Researchers analyzed 160 doctors in Toledo, comparing a group that completed a theoretical-practical course on strength training with a group that did not.

The findings demonstrated that doctors who underwent the specialized training acquired significantly more knowledge and confidence, leading to an increase in the prescription of strength training for patients. This is considered vital for addressing cardiovascular health, muscle mass, and the prevention of sarcopenia.
