Toledo opposition criticizes Mayor Velázquez over US trip

The Socialist Group in Toledo, represented by councilwoman Laura Villacañas, has criticized Mayor Carlos Velázquez for traveling to the United States while local issues remain unresolved. Villacañas accused the mayor of appearing to govern through interviews and announcements while engaging in leisure activities abroad.

The opposition has formally requested detailed information regarding the trip, including its total cost, the accompanying personnel, and the official agenda. This request follows previous attempts to obtain data on more than 20 international trips taken during Velázquez’s term. Villacañas questioned the lack of transparency and the absence of tangible benefits for citizens, suggesting that recent tax increases on water, sewage, and property (IBI) might be linked to funding such travels.
