Toledo province highlights cultural and historical tourism

The province of Toledo offers various cultural and historical attractions for visitors. In Consuegra, the Cerro Calderico features a collection of twelve restored windmills, including the historic Sancho windmill, which was the first to be restored using traditional methods and declared a Bien de Interés Cultural.

In Escalona, visitors can explore the medieval castle-palace of Don Álvaro de Luna and participate in a unique local tradition involving a column in the Plaza del Infante Don Juan Manuel, which references literature from ‘El Lazarillo de Tormes’. Meanwhile, Illescas provides access to works by El Greco at the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de la Caridad.

Mora highlights its olive oil culture through the Museo del Aceite and features the Gothic-style Church of Santa María de Altagracia. Additionally, the Diputación de Toledo has reactivated its ‘Paseos Naturales’ program, offering free monthly guided tours through various landscapes in the province to promote rural tourism and heritage appreciation.
