Toledo shooting club accidental discharge leaves man seriously injured

A 37-year-old man was seriously injured after being struck in the chest by an accidental gunshot at the Velho Texas shooting club in Toledo, Paraná. Security footage captured the moment the victim placed his 9mm pistol on a table, after which another individual, a 31-year-old collector, shooter, and hunter (CAC), picked up the weapon and accidentally discharged it.

Investigations by the Civil Police indicate the incident was caused by a series of safety protocol failures, including failing to keep a finger off the trigger and not treating the weapon as loaded. The victim had reportedly reinserted a magazine and a round into the chamber before placing the gun on the table, leading the second individual to believe it was empty. The victim was treated at Hospital Bom Jesus and remains in serious condition.

The shooter, who is also a CAC, signed a term for involuntary bodily injury and was not arrested. The club issued a statement noting that firearm handling is strictly prohibited in administrative areas and must only occur on designated shooting ranges. The weapon, which belongs to the victim and is properly registered, has been seized for forensic analysis. Documentation regarding the incident will be forwarded to the Federal Police and the Army for administrative review.
