Toledo storm causes widespread destruction and millions in damages

A severe storm and high winds struck Toledo, Paraná, on Tuesday night, causing widespread structural damage across the municipality. In the Novo Sobradinho district, two empty poultry houses sustained estimated losses of R$ 2 million. Other structural damages include the loss of roofing at the Polisopro company and the collapse of a building under construction near the Biopark region.

The Luiz Dalcanale Filho Municipal Airport suffered significant impact, with most hangars being destroyed or severely damaged. Initial estimates suggest between 10 and 12 aircraft, including agricultural planes and executive jets, may have been affected. While the passenger terminal experienced flooding, navigation equipment and meteorological stations remain functional, and the airport continues to operate.

On the PR-182 highway between Toledo and Palotina, wind-blown debris blocked both directions of traffic for nearly three hours. At least four vehicles were hit, and one person sustained minor injuries. The storm also caused fallen trees, downed utility poles, and damage to school roofs, including the Oswaldo Cruz and Olivo Beal schools. Civil Defense and local authorities are currently conducting damage assessments.
