Collegiate athletics: Georgetown and Toledo secure key victories

Various collegiate athletic competitions took place recently across several sports.

In men’s soccer, the No. 5 ranked Georgetown University defeated the No. 17 University of Akron 3-1. Mateo Ponce Ocampo scored two goals, assisted by Terrance Reynolds, to secure the victory for the Hoyas.

In women’s soccer, Western Michigan defeated the Toledo Rockets 3-0, scoring three goals in a seven-minute span during the second half.

In volleyball, the Toledo women’s team swept Akron 3-0 in their Mid-American Conference opener. Additionally, the Ohio volleyball team secured a 3-0 sweep against Central Michigan.

In football, UNLV defeated Akron 38-10, pulling away in the second half after a competitive opening period where Akron trailed only 14-10.
