Toledo tourist train strikes Italian tourist after moving without driver

A tourist train in Toledo, Spain, struck a 44-year-old Italian tourist after moving without a driver on Saturday, August 22, 2026. The incident occurred near the intersection of Cuesta de los Capuchinos and Calle Unión in the city's historic center.

Authorities suspect the vehicle gained speed due to a handbrake malfunction or failure to properly engage the brake. The train, which was not carrying any passengers at the time, traveled several meters without control before crashing into a wall separating Calle Unión from the Alcázar Park. The locomotive ended up partially suspended near the Alcázar de Toledo.

The injured Italian man was taken to the hospital and later discharged with an arm injury; his condition is reported as non-serious. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the unexpected movement.
