Tolhuin advances thermal project as Chilean study reduces methane

In Tolhuin, Argentina, officials are advancing a draft ordinance to regulate and develop a thermal complex. The project, which involved community participation from residents, students, and local institutions, aims to diversify the local economy and reduce tourism seasonality. The proposal seeks to protect strategic resources and establish self-financing mechanisms to improve infrastructure while prioritizing local businesses and human resources.

In Chile, a collaborative research project involving the public sector, private industry, and academia has successfully demonstrated that incorporating seaweed into bovine diets reduces methane emissions. The FIA-UST project, involving the Universidad Santo Tomás and INIA Remehue, showed that these reductions occur without negatively impacting milk production or quality. The initiative aims to mitigate the livestock sector's contribution to climate change through scientific innovation.
