Tolhuin completes first community sign‑language course in Argentina

The Municipality of Tolhuin, through its Directorate of Disability and Directorate of Culture, closed its inaugural open course in Argentine Sign Language (LSA). The program attracted 71 registered participants, of whom 58‑71 completed the training after six to seven sessions totaling 18 hours.

The course was taught by deaf instructor Estela Maris Ruiz Vargas and culminated with a group interpretation of the Argentine National Anthem in sign language. Municipal officials, including Culture Director Alejandro Machuca and Disability Director Johana Odiante, highlighted the strong community demand and announced plans to expand similar inclusive training initiatives.

Organizers said the high turnout demonstrates local interest in improving communication accessibility, and the municipality intends to continue offering sign‑language workshops for broader community and workplace applications.
