Tolna County hosts large-scale air rescue exercise

On October 13, the National Directorate General for Disaster Management conducted a large-scale, coordinated air search and rescue exercise in Tolna County, Hungary. The drill involved approximately 150 participants from various partner organizations and agencies.

The simulation was designed to strengthen the efficiency of the National Air Search and Rescue System, refine cooperation mechanisms, and ensure continuous information flow during aviation accidents. The complex scenario involved a mid-air collision between a glider and a Cessna 172 during a national gliding championship near the Őcsényi airfield.

The drill simulated multiple cascading emergencies, including a Cessna losing its landing gear and catching fire after an emergency landing, a glider pilot becoming unconscious after being caught in a tree, and a forest fire triggered by downed power lines. The exercise tested high-level alert protocols and the coordination between disaster management and military units.
