Toluca has reached a verbal agreement to sign 18-year-old Uruguayan right-back Brian Barboza from Club Atlético Peñarol. The Mexican club reportedly agreed to purchase 80% of the player's economic rights for approximately $4 million USD.
Barboza, a product of Peñarol’s youth academy, has gained experience in both the Uruguayan league and the CONMEBOL Libertadores. The deal is structured as a long-term investment, with the player expected to join Toluca's squad in early 2027 as part of a strategy to rejuvenate the defense under manager Renato Paiva.
Negotiations are currently finalizing the specific percentage of future sale rights that Peñarol will retain.
