Mexico regional governments implement environmental and social welfare programs

Various regional government initiatives are being implemented across Mexico focusing on environmental conservation and social welfare.

In Veracruz, the Secretariat of the Environment (Sedema) monitored over 7,500 kilometers of the Metlac-Río Blanco Protected Natural Area between 2025 and 2026. Efforts included collecting 18 tons of waste and addressing reports of illegal logging and pollution.

In Chihuahua, the municipal government expanded its disability scholarship program to 6,019 beneficiaries through a joint 48.7 million peso investment with the state government.

In San Luis Potosí, Governor Ricardo Gallardo Cardona announced the expansion of social programs in Santa María del Río and Huehuetlán, while Senator Ruth González secured a donation of 1,500 trees from CEMEX for reforestation in Ciudad Valles and Tamuín.

Other environmental actions include the planting of over 135,000 trees in Toluca to combat urban heat islands and the removal of 16 tons of waste from the Ciénega de Progreso wetland by Conagua and local authorities. In Puebla, Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier pledged inter-party cooperation with local mayors to address infrastructure and educational needs.
