Toluca historic center faces infrastructure and structural risks

The historic center of Toluca is facing increasing infrastructure risks due to recent structural failures. A utility register at the intersection of Independencia and Riva Palacio streets has subsided, creating a significant opening in the sidewalk and roadway. Personnel from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) and municipal workers are currently conducting repairs and cordoning off the area to protect pedestrians and drivers.

In a separate incident, a portion of a historic facade collapsed at the corner of Nicolás Bravo and Instituto Literario streets. The building is protected by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH). Local residents and commuters have expressed concern that aging structures, combined with recent rainfall and lack of maintenance, pose a growing danger to public safety in the city's high-traffic central district.
