Toluca launches photography contests for Alfeñique Festival 2026

Mayor Ricardo Moreno has issued an invitation for photographers to participate in the 2026 Alfeñique Cultural Fair and Festival in Toluca. The call for entries includes two categories: ‘Portales Calavéricos’ and ‘Calaveras de Luz, Miradas al Alfeñique Toluqueño’.

Professional photographers, students, and enthusiasts over the age of 18 residing in the city are eligible to apply by August 24. Selected works from the ‘Portales Calavéricos’ category will be featured in an outdoor exhibition at Los Portales, located on Avenida Miguel Hidalgo and Nicolás Bravo street.

Other participants focusing on the craftsmanship of alfeñique or Day of the Dead iconography may exhibit their work at the Museo del Alfeñique and the Alameda showcases. The initiative aims to use public spaces to promote local talent and celebrate the historical richness of Day of the Dead traditions.
