Ushuaia municipal official Carolina Yutrovic denies bribery accusations
Carolina Yutrovic, secretary of Planning, Works and Public Services for the municipality of Ushuaia, publicly rejected allegations made by civil engineer Miguel Hidalgo that municipal staff demanded bribes to accelerate private‑construction permits. Hidalgo complained of prolonged processing times and claimed he had heard of “coimas” being requested, though he said he never paid any. The municipal government, through Secretary of Government Sebastián Iriarte, criticized Hidalgo for making unsubstantiated accusations without filing a legal complaint, describing the statements as a politically motivated media operation. Iriarte emphasized that any alleged wrongdoing must be reported to the justice system and noted that the permit process involves the Urban Planning Council, technical units and the deliberative council, not a single employee. The municipality reiterated that its administrative procedures are transparent and that no evidence of bribery has been presented.
