Toluca reports 36% drop in high‑impact crime, mayor credits security strategy

The municipality of Toluca in the State of Mexico recorded a 36.3% reduction in high‑impact crimes for the period January‑June 2024‑2026, according to official data from the Secretariado Ejecutivo del Sistema Nacional de Seguridad Pública (SESNSP). The average daily count of such crimes fell from 41 cases to 21.

Mayor Ricardo Moreno said the decline reflects coordinated action by the three orders of government, highlighting the most pronounced falls in intentional homicide (‑80%), vehicle theft (‑77.47%) and extortion (‑72.40%). Other categories also saw decreases, including home robbery (‑67.42%), business robbery (‑44.94%), public‑transport robbery (‑37.88%), drug dealing (‑49.24%), intentional injuries (‑23.74%) and family violence (‑15.96%). Moreno noted that while the results are encouraging, further work remains to sustain and improve public safety.
