Toluca repurposes waste materials for public park decorations

In Toluca, Mexico, the Department of Maintenance of Green Areas, Parks, Gardens, and Cemeteries is implementing an initiative to repurpose waste materials for public space decoration. By utilizing discarded tires, wood, plastic, and other debris, officials are creating functional and ornamental items such as benches, planters, and decorative animal figures.

Project leaders noted that the initiative aims to prevent waste from becoming pollution or littering streets. To develop designs, staff utilize tutorials and artificial intelligence to transform materials like dry trees and old tires into structures for parks, including the Vicente Guerrero and Metropolitano parks.
