Toluca residents dispute Humboldt Street paving works

Conflicting reports have emerged regarding the rehabilitation of Alejandro Von Humboldt Street in the historic center of Toluca.

The municipal government, led by Mayor Ricardo Moreno, stated that paving works began following requests from residents and local delegates to improve mobility and address road deterioration. Officials noted that work is being conducted during the day and night to provide a pothole-free asphalt surface for pedestrians and motorists.

However, some residents have mobilized to halt the construction, claiming a lack of technical, legal, and safety guarantees. Protesters argue that the municipal government has failed to provide essential documentation, including georadar study results, technical reports to ensure structural safety for nearby buildings, and a water management plan. Residents are also demanding transparency regarding the contractor’s insurance policy and the mitigation of mobility impacts during the project.
