Toluca takes Liga MX Apertura 2026 lead after defeating Puebla

Toluca has reclaimed the top position in the Liga MX Apertura 2026 tournament following a 1-0 victory against Puebla at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc. The match, a rescheduled fixture from Jornada 7, was decided in the 69th minute by an own goal from Puebla defender Rodrigo Pachuca after a corner kick led to a series of rebounds.

Despite the low-scoring nature of the game, Toluca's victory brings them to 19 points, placing them two points ahead of Chivas and three ahead of América. Puebla remains in eighth place with 13 points. Toluca's goalkeeper, Luis García, was noted for several key saves that helped preserve the narrow lead.

Toluca manager Antonio Mohamed expressed pride in his team's ability to adapt to a difficult playing surface and a combative opponent, stating, “When you can't win by playing, you win by fighting.”
