Toluca wins 2026 Leagues Cup title by defeating Monterrey
Toluca won the 2026 Leagues Cup title after defeating Monterrey 2-0 in the final held at Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas. The victory marks the first time a Liga MX club has won the tournament since its modern format was adopted in 2023.
Alexis Vega opened the scoring in the 4th minute, capitalizing on a rebound following a shot from Federico Viñas. Helinho secured the win in the 70th minute with a goal assisted by Viñas. The win also grants Toluca direct qualification for the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup.
Under the management of Antonio Mohamed, Toluca has established a dominant period, with this being Mohamed's sixth title with the club. The tournament final was notable for being the first in the modern era to feature two Mexican clubs.
