Tom and Jerry: Magic Compass announced as new animated feature

The animated characters Tom and Jerry are returning to the big screen in a new feature film titled ‘Tom and Jerry: Magic Compass’. This production marks the first full-length computer-animated adventure for the iconic duo, who have been recognized as cultural symbols since their 1940 debut.

The plot follows a chase at the Metropolitan Museum in Manhattan involving a mysterious artifact known as the Astral Compass. The activation of this magical object transports the characters into a mythical metropolis filled with supernatural beings. In this new setting, Tom finds himself in the role of a divine messenger, while Jerry becomes entangled with a cunning underground ruler. To return home, the long-time rivals must eventually cooperate.

The film is a co-production between Warner Bros. Pictures China and China Film Co., Ltd., directed by Gang Zhang. It aims to combine modern visual animation with the classic slapstick humor and wordless chaos that defined the original Oscar-winning short films.
