Tom Crabbe ends racing season early due to knee injury

Belgian sprinter Tom Crabbe has announced the premature end of his racing season due to a persistent knee injury. The 21-year-old, who experienced a breakout year with five professional victories, is suffering from iliotibial band syndrome, commonly known as runner's knee.

Crabbe’s successful season included stage wins at Ster van Bessèges and Ruta del Sol, as well as three stage wins at the Tour of Turkey. Despite undergoing physical therapy and modified training, the injury has not recovered sufficiently to allow for continued competition. He stated that he would rather step aside for a fully fit rider than attempt to compete while compromised.

The injury comes at a transitional period for the rider. His current team, Team Flanders-Baloise, will cease to exist after this season, and Crabbe is scheduled to join Pinarello-Q36.5 for the 2027 season on a two-year contract.
