Tom Cruise discusses preparation and VistaVision use for ‘Digger’

Actor Tom Cruise has discussed his intense preparation and technical interests regarding his upcoming film, ‘Digger’, directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu. Cruise revealed a rigorous work ethic, noting that he works seven days a week to prepare for future roles. During the production of ‘Digger’, where he portrays an aging oil tycoon, Cruise reported working 19-hour days and even sleeping on set to manage the demands of complex prosthetic makeup.

Technically, ‘Digger’ is notable for being shot entirely in the VistaVision format. Cruise has expressed a long-standing interest in large-format cinematography, including 65mm and IMAX. The VistaVision process uses a horizontal 35mm film transport, creating a larger negative area that allows for finer grain and greater detail. Warner Bros. has announced that the film is scheduled for a theatrical and IMAX release in October 2026.
