Tom Cruise defends human creativity against rising AI in film

At a BAFTA ‘Life in Pictures’ event in London, actor Tom Cruise delivered a six-minute monologue addressing the rise of artificial intelligence in Hollywood. While acknowledging that AI is “coming and it is going to happen,” Cruise emphasized that technology cannot replace the human element in filmmaking. He argued that audiences continue to seek authentic, human-driven storytelling and shared cinematic experiences, noting that “there is nothing like human.”

Cruise also defended the theatrical experience, describing it as “a different art form” compared to streaming. He pointed to strong summer box office performance as evidence of the public's enduring desire for cinema. During the event, Cruise also discussed his upcoming film ‘Digger,’ directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, in which he undergoes a significant physical transformation using prosthetics to play an oil tycoon.

His comments align with his previous advocacy during the 2023 SAG-AFTRA negotiations, where he supported safeguards to protect human creativity and workers' rights amidst increasing technological integration in the industry.
