Tom Cruise promotes ‘Digger’ in Japan, emphasizes timeless filmmaking
Actor Tom Cruise visited Japan for the 26th time to promote his upcoming film, ‘Digger’, which is scheduled for release in Japan on October 9. During a Japan premiere held at the former Tokyo Expressway (KK Line), Cruise discussed his approach to filmmaking and his desire to create timeless cinema.
Cruise emphasized that his primary motivation is not opening weekend box office numbers or fame, but rather a love for film and the creation of enduring works that audiences will watch for generations. He cited ‘Blade Runner’ as an example of a masterpiece that transcends time, expressing a wish to produce similar lasting legacies. He also highlighted the importance of the collective theatrical experience.
In ‘Digger’, directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Cruise plays Digger Rockwell, an arrogant oil company CEO whose actions lead to a global crisis. While critical reception for the film has been divided in the United States, Cruise expressed great honor in working on such a unique script and noted that his decades of diverse acting experience have prepared him for this role.
