Tom Cruise discusses transformation for new film ‘Digger’

Actor Tom Cruise is preparing for the release of his upcoming film ‘Digger’, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu. In the black comedy, Cruise portrays Digger Rockwell, a powerful oil tycoon attempting to act as a savior for humanity following a catastrophe he helped cause.

During a recent appearance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’, Cruise discussed the intense physical transformation required for the role. To portray Rockwell, Cruise utilized prosthetics and heavy costumes that initially required six hours of makeup application. To optimize the 12-hour filming days, Cruise personally managed the process using a stopwatch and a whiteboard to track the application of each piece, eventually reducing the preparation time to under one hour.

The film features a supporting cast including Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Jesse Plemons, and Michael Stuhlbarg. Warner Bros. has also teased promotional merchandise, including a boot-shaped popcorn bucket modeled after the character’s footwear. ‘Digger’ is scheduled for release in early October.
