Tom Cruise pursues real NASCAR racing and new dramatic role

Actor Tom Cruise is reportedly pursuing ambitious projects that showcase his commitment to physical authenticity and dramatic range. For a potential sequel to his 1990 film ‘Days of Thunder’, Cruise has expressed interest in competing in an actual stock car race rather than merely filming choreographed sequences. NASCAR executive Steve O’Donnell noted that Cruise specifically inquired about participating in the ARCA Menards Series, a national championship that serves as a development platform for professional drivers.

In a different professional endeavor, Cruise stars in the avant-garde film ‘Digger’, directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu. In the film, Cruise portrays an aging oil baron whose negligence leads to environmental catastrophe. While the role allows Cruise to demonstrate acting abilities outside of his typical action genre, critics have described the production as ‘pretentious Oscar bait’ due to its bombastic tone and heavy focus on the lead performance.
