Tom Cruise sought advice regarding Andrew Morton biography

Biographer J. Randy Taraborrelli has shared details regarding actor Tom Cruise’s reaction to Andrew Morton’s 2008 unauthorized biography. According to Taraborrelli, Cruise became highly anxious in 2007 upon learning that Morton, known for biographies on figures such as Princess Diana, was writing a tell-all about him.

Taraborrelli reported that Cruise made numerous urgent calls to him seeking advice. During a subsequent meeting at Cruise’s Beverly Hills estate, Taraborrelli noted that the actor appeared “rattled” and paced the property. The meeting also marked Taraborrelli’s first encounter with Cruise’s then-wife, Katie Holmes.

Taraborrelli advised the actor to “let it happen,” suggesting that the project was beyond his control. While Cruise’s legal team reportedly sent a “hostile letter” to Morton, Cruise eventually accepted the situation. Following the book's release, Cruise reportedly sent Taraborrelli a bottle of whisky with a note echoing the advice to “let it happen.”
