Tom Cruise to receive 2027 AFI Life Achievement Award
The American Film Institute (AFI) has announced that actor and producer Tom Cruise will be honored with the 52nd AFI Life Achievement Award. The tribute gala is scheduled for April 24, 2027, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
Kathleen Kennedy, chair of the AFI Board of Trustees, described Cruise as a “global icon” and praised his extraordinary commitment to filmmaking and his ability to use cinema to bring people together. The award recognizes his prolific career spanning over four decades, during which his films have grossed nearly $13 billion at the global box office.
Cruise, a four-time Academy Award nominee, is known for iconic roles in franchises such as “Mission: Impossible” and “Top Gun,” as well as films like “Jerry Maguire,” “Rain Man,” and “Risky Business.” He most recently received an Honorary Oscar at the 2025 Governors Awards. He is currently starring in the satirical film “Digger,” directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu.
