Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway to star in ‘Days of Thunder’ sequel

Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway have officially announced a sequel to the 1990 racing classic ‘Days of Thunder’. The project, set for a June 2, 2028, theatrical release by Paramount Pictures, will see Cruise reprise his role as NASCAR driver Cole Trickle. Hathaway will join the cast as a racing team owner and engineer.

The announcement was made via social media and reinforced by Cruise’s appearance at the Daytona International Speedway during a NASCAR Cup Series event. The production team includes producer Jerry Bruckheimer, producer Tommy Harper, director Jonathan Levine, and screenwriter Will Staples. The film is being positioned as a major cinematic experience with plans for IMAX, Dolby Cinema, and 4DX formats.

While the news has generated excitement, it has also drawn criticism from original cast member Randy Quaid, who expressed a desire for Nicole Kidman to return to the franchise. Additionally, during his appearance at Daytona, Cruise paid tribute to the late NASCAR legend Kyle Busch by leaving a reserved seat in his honor at the drivers’ meeting.
