Paramount Pictures has officially approved a sequel to the 1990 NASCAR drama Days of Thunder. Tom Cruise will reprise his role as driver Cole Trickle, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who backed the original, is returning for the new film. Director Jonathan Levine, known for comedies such as 50/50 and The Night Before, is in talks to helm the project, while the screenplay is being written by Will Staples, whose credits include video‑game titles and the action film Without Remorse. The announcement follows recent promotion of the original film on Swedish television, but the sequel development is centered on U.S. studio production.
