Tom Cruise's Upcoming Black Comedy 'Digger' Set for October 2026 Release
Warner Bros. is preparing the release of "Digger," a new black‑comedy film directed by Oscar‑winner Alejandro González Iñárritu and starring Tom Cruise as oil magnate Digger Rockwell, the self‑described most powerful man on Earth. The story follows Rockwell’s frantic attempt to rescue humanity after a disaster of his own making threatens global annihilation.
The first trailer and promotional poster will debut on 13 July 2026, with the theatrical launch scheduled for 2 October 2026 (1 October in Mexico). Production was shot over six months in the United Kingdom on 35 mm VistaVision film, and the movie will be presented in IMAX. The ensemble cast includes Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Riz Ahmed, Sophie Wilde, Emma D’Arcy and others.
Warner Bros. has issued a career‑retrospective of Cruise alongside the new footage, highlighting his shift from long‑standing action‑hero roles to a dramatically different, heavily made‑up look with greying hair and a more comedic tone. Marketing pushes the film as a “catastrophic comedy,” targeting both domestic and international audiences with heavy summer‑season hype.
