Tom Ford: From revitalizing Gucci to building a fashion and film empire

Tom Ford, the fashion designer and filmmaker, has built a career defined by luxury, provocation, and aesthetic discipline. After studying architecture at the Parsons School of Design, Ford joined Gucci in 1990. As creative director starting in 1994, he is credited with revitalizing the brand through sensual campaigns and a high-glamour aesthetic, contributing to a massive increase in company value.

Following his tenure at Gucci and his role as creative director for Yves Saint Laurent, Ford launched his eponymous brand in 2005. His label expanded into eyewear, cosmetics, and fragrances, with his beauty division being acquired by Estée Lauder for $2.8 billion in 2022. Ford stepped down as creative director of his brand in 2023.

Beyond fashion, Ford transitioned into filmmaking. His 2009 directorial debut, ‘A Single Man’, received critical acclaim and a Golden Lion nomination at the Venice Film Festival, establishing him as a serious director in the film industry.
