Tom Hanks refuses to remake 1950 classic ‘Harvey’

Actor Tom Hanks has consistently refused to participate in a remake of the 1950 classic film ‘Harvey’. The original film, directed by Henry Koster and starring James Stewart, follows an eccentric man whose best friend is an invisible, six-foot-tall rabbit.

Hanks has maintained this stance for over two decades, famously stating in a 2000 interview that some classics should be left alone because they are already perfect. He compared the idea of a remake to modernizing other legendary films, arguing there is no need to update a story that functions well in its original form.

Despite various attempts by studios to revive the project—including a 2018 effort involving Netflix and a 2009 interest from Steven Spielberg—the remake has not moved forward. Spielberg had reportedly considered Hanks for the lead role, but the project was shelved following the actor's refusal.
