Tom Holland delays Spider‑Man 4 to star in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’

Tom Holland convinced Sony Pictures to postpone filming of Spider‑Man 4 (titled Spider‑Man: Brand New Day) so he could take the role of Telemachus in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming adaptation of The Odyssey. Holland described the conversation with Sony executives as “very uncomfortable,” but cited Nolan’s reputation for efficient, practical filmmaking as a key factor in securing the schedule change.

The delay gave director Destin Daniel Cretton extra time to join the Spider‑Man project, which Holland believes resulted in a stronger, more ambitious film. Nolan’s production started on schedule and wrapped nine days early, allowing Holland to transition directly into Spider‑Man filming. Holland praised Nolan’s meticulous preparation and “absolute speed and efficiency,” noting the experience differed markedly from his work within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
