Tom Holland to star in Fred Astaire biopic with Sabrina Carpenter

Fred Astaire biopic Tom Holland Sabrina Carpenter Margaret Qualley Sony Pictures

Sony Pictures is developing an untitled biographical film about legendary dancer and actor Fred Astaire. Tom Holland has been attached to the project since 2021 and will portray Astaire, intending to perform the complex dance sequences himself without the use of doubles.

Sabrina Carpenter has joined the cast to play the iconic Ginger Rogers, while Margaret Qualley will portray Adele Astaire, Fred’s elder sister and original dance partner. The film aims to highlight Adele’s significant but historically overlooked contributions to the performing arts, as no footage of her dancing survives.

Directed by Paul King, known for ‘Paddington’ and ‘Wonka’, the screenplay is being co-written by King and Steven Levenson. The project is based on Kathleen Riley’s biography, ‘The Astaires: Fred & Adele’, and has received support from Fred Astaire’s daughter, Ava Astaire McKenzie.
