Tom Homan defends ICE operations and mass deportation efforts

Tom Homan, the administration's border official, defended recent immigration enforcement actions during the Hispanic Leadership Coalition summit. Addressing critics, Homan challenged legislators to provide specific examples of where Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has exceeded its authority, suggesting that officials should consult with the agency directly before questioning its procedures.

Homan reported that the border is currently the most secure in the country's history, noting a significant decrease in illegal crossings compared to previous years. He stated that the administration is focused on closing the border, implementing mass deportations, and locating missing children.

Regarding domestic enforcement, Homan noted a surge in activity, claiming nearly 200,000 arrests have occurred within the country over the last four months, with July and August seeing record-breaking numbers for ICE. He emphasized that individuals in the country without authorization face deportation under federal law but maintained that detainees have the opportunity to appear before a judge.
