Tom Kaulitz expresses disappointment over German Television Awards
Musician Tom Kaulitz expressed disappointment following the 2026 German Television Awards (Deutscher Fernsehpreis) in Cologne. While the MagentaTV team won the award for ‘best sports program’ for their coverage of the men’s football World Cup, Kaulitz, who worked as an intern for the platform during the tournament, did not receive a personal mention or notification from his colleagues.
Speaking on the podcast ‘Kaulitz Hills – Senf aus Hollywood’ with his twin brother Bill Kaulitz, Tom noted, ‘I was a bit disappointed because nobody contacted me.’ He clarified that he did not intend to claim a larger role than he actually held, acknowledging that colleagues like Laura Wontorra, Johannes B. Kerner, Mats Hummels, and Christian Straßburger were much more heavily involved in the production.
Bill Kaulitz reacted strongly to the situation, calling the lack of communication an ‘outrage.’ Despite the tension discussed in the podcast, Tom later personally congratulated moderator Johannes B. Kerner on his award.
