Tom Morello discusses politics in rock and heavy metal advocacy

Rage Against the Machine co-founder Tom Morello has addressed the role of politics in rock music, stating that not all bands need to be political and should not feel pressured to be so for his sake.

In a recent interview with Star FM, Morello discussed his long-standing efforts to advocate for heavy metal within the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He noted that he has spent nearly 15 years working to ensure that influential groups such as Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Rush, Kiss, and Stevie Ray Vaughan receive proper recognition despite being viewed as outsiders by some.

Morello also highlighted the enduring relevance and multi-generational appeal of the heavy music scene, observing that veteran bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest continue to headline major global festivals and attract younger audiences.
