Tom Morello shares stories of Jimmy Page and Maynard James Keenan

Musician Tom Morello recently shared personal anecdotes regarding his musical influences and family life. During an appearance on the Broken Record podcast, Morello described how he encouraged his son, Roman, to learn the guitar by teaching him notes from Led Zeppelin’s ‘Stairway to Heaven’. To further motivate him, Morello sent a video of Roman performing the song's solo to Jimmy Page, who provided positive reinforcement. Morello noted that Roman and Page have since become friends.

Additionally, Morello discussed his musical relationship with Maynard James Keenan, the frontman of Tool. He credited Keenan with introducing him to the Drop D tuning technique, a method involving lowering the sixth string to a D note to create a heavier sound. This technique has since become a staple of Morello’s work with Rage Against the Machine and his various solo projects.
