Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers reunite for first performance since 2017

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers reunited for their first performance since the death of Tom Petty in 2017. The group performed at the Americana Honors and Awards show on Wednesday night, where they received a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The performance featured original members Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, Stan Lynch, and Ron Blair, joined by country artist Chris Stapleton. The band played a selection of Petty classics, including ‘American Girl,’ ‘Breakdown,’ and ‘You Wreck Me.’

During the set, later members Steve Ferrone and Scott Thurston also joined the group. This event marked the first time the original Heartbreakers lineup had shared a stage in over 20 years.
