Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers announce ‘Origins 1971-1978’ box set
The Tom Petty Estate has announced ‘Origins 1971-1978’, a comprehensive archival box set celebrating the 50th anniversary of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Scheduled for release on November 6, the collection documents the band’s formative years through 51 tracks, including 27 unreleased, live, and previously unheard recordings.
The set will be available in several formats, including a 5LP box set, a 4CD box set, and an ultra-deluxe edition featuring Blu-ray and DVD. Key components include the rarities collection ‘No Sleep Til L.A.’, which traces the transition from the band Mudcrutch to the Heartbreakers, and 50th-anniversary editions of the band’s first two studio albums, ‘Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ and ‘You’re Gonna Get It!’.
To preview the collection, the estate released the previously unreleased 1978 track ‘Parade of Loons’ alongside an animated music video. The announcement coincides with the Americana Awards, where the band is set to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award. The ceremony will feature a special reunion performance by original Heartbreakers Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, Stan Lynch, and Ron Blair, performing alongside Chris Stapleton.
